Congratulations to the entire Oro Jaska / Shut Up TV-series team! The sámi youth TV series has just been nominated for the 2025 International Emmy® Awards in the Kids-Action section! 🎉

The nominations were announced yesterday by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, featuring 64 nominees across 16 categories from a record 26 countries. And what a thrill to get to know that among them is the Sámi youth TV series Oro Jaska / Shut Up, created by Silje Burgin-Borch and Vegard Bjørsmo!

Are you in GUOVDAGEAIDNU Saturday October 4th? Welcome to this community screening of the Oscar®-nominated documentary SUGARCANE. After the film, there will be Q&A with the directors Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassies.

ABOUT SUGARCANE
This award-winning debut feature documentary from Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie, is a groundbreaking investigation into an Indian residential school, shedding light on years of forced separation, assimilation and abuse that Indigenous children experienced at the hands of Church and government. This urgent and timely film brings the hidden story of cultural genocide to audiences worldwide while celebrating the resilience of Native people as they work to overcome cycles of intergenerational trauma.

Good to know about this screening: The film is in english with english subtitles, the q&a is in english. The screening is a free communityscreening with @sugarcanefilm and is in collaboration with the International Sámi Film Institute workshop Sámi Storyžat Lab.

The TV series A Sámi Wedding had its world premiere in Toronto recently, and is now making its way to festivals across the globe. During the premier week in Toronto, Olena Hætta shared insights into her role of a script supervisor. Here’s also behind-the-scenes glimpse of her in action on set in Guovdageaidnu in close collaboration with director Åse Kathrin Vuolab, when ISFI had the pleasure of visiting the filming for a few hours in 2024.

This week ISFI with Film Comissioner Silja Somby, with Sámi Filmmaker Lisa Marie Kristensen from @forestpeople.as was invited to the @atlanticfilmfest industry AIFF Partners in Halifax, with a special focus on Sámi and Indigenous Stories on Screen. The event was presented by @cbc .

The audience got to know more about how important it is with diversity in the crew and how the sámi film community for many years have worked with educating more sámi film workers, and how we have been working towards having more sámi crew in every face of the productions.
