We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with the prestigious Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles and celebrate Earth Day with Sámi and Arctic Indigenous films.

On April 21 and 22, the Academy Museum will showcase a selection of films from Arctic Indigenous filmmakers, supported by International Sámi Film Institute.

We are immensely proud to partner with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and to present our impactful films to audiences in Los Angeles,” expressed Anne Lajla Utsi, Director of the International Sami Film Institute. Having the opportunity to showcase our films at the Academy Museum, an institution renowned for recognizing excellence in the film industry worldwide, is a tremendous honor for us.

This collaboration underscores the international acknowledgment of the significance of Indigenous voices within the film industry. We believe that this partnership will create a deeper understanding of the Arctic Indigenous peoples’ profound connection to our homelands, culture, and the challenges we face in the wake of climate change.

On Sunday, April 21, there will be an afternoon screening of the teen-focused sci-fi delight Slash/Back (2022), followed by a conversation with Canadian Inuit filmmaker Nyla Innuksuk.

On Monday, April 22, the Academy Museum will host an evening of Sámi and Arctic Indigenous documentary shorts exploring the profound connection between climate, land, and resources, followed by a conversation with select filmmakers, moderated by Academy member Bird Runningwater.

The documentary shorts are Under Two Skies (2017), Salmon Reflection (2021), Trembling Floors (2020), Hinkelten (2023), The Past and the Future of the Arctic (2023), Ealát (2021).

The screenings will take place at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, providing an opportunity for film enthusiasts and families to see Arctic Indigenous Films.
