Nils Gaup is educated as an actor from Oslo National Academy of the Performing Arts (1978), and was one of the founders of Beaivváš Sámi National Theatre. He made the feature Pathfinder (1987) in Sámi language, which saw a huge success. Pathfinder was nominated for an Academy Award as the best foreign language movie. He has since made several features both in Hollywood and elsewhere. His latest film was The Kautokeino Rebellion (2008). He comes from Soahtefielbmá, Kautokeino, and lives in Oslo, Norway.
